Jack and I had an enjoyable time snowboarding today. The day started out rough as far as our attitudes were concerned but thankfully we both resolved in our hearts to fix our attitudes and enjoy time with each other rather than nit-pick and get angry or frustrated with each other over stupid things. We headed up there and were thankful to see that it wasn't all that crowded. We booted up and strapped in and jumped on the lift. It was a gorgeous day, temps in the upper 20s lower 30s and not a cloud in the sky. We warmed up on our trusty green and decided to head to the top of the mountain. Straight up blues and some moguls only for these two! We had a blast. We stayed on the upper part of the mountain all day, trying new runs and a new lift that we had never ridden before. We had a good time and were tired by the end. Thankfully we didn't have any major falls so it was smooth running all day.
Yesterday Jack and I met up with our friends, J&K, at their place for a special dinner they prepared to celebrate my birthday! Since we were in NC over my birthday they wanted to get to celebrate with us as well. It was so sweet of them. We enjoyed some yummy green beans, salad, and chicken fettuccine alfredo (I love pasta!!) and had a lot of fun laughs. We then started a rousing game of Chicken Foot (domino type game, have I mentioned how much it warms my heart that our dear friends here are game players...if you know me...I LOVE playing games!!!) and then they surprised me with a homemade cheesecake and the "Happy Birthday" song sung with gusto! It was grrrreat! We topped our cheesecake with some strawberries and it was delicious! We then made it half way through our Chicken Foot game before we called it a night, poor Jeremy had a head cold and he was going to be the one getting the least amount of sleep because of work in the morning. Thankful for special friends who went out of their way to make me feel special! It was awesome!!
And for those that may not have heard yet...I had my interview on Wednesday at the local hospital for a critical care position. After meeting with the nurse recruiter and the nurse educator for about an hour (we discussed everything from my work history/experience, to living on the east coast, to living in Santa Fe, and the joys of snow sports and taking advantage of the surrounding mountains) they then took me on a tour of the unit and to meet some of the nurses that work up there and to meet with the hiring manager. I really enjoyed my time with the manager, we clicked really well (she comes from a teaching hospital and has uber super amount of experience working in the ICU, mainly cardiac background...love our hearts, and we both hail from the east coast) and she introduced me to one of the nurses from the floor. We discussed what working on the floor entailed and our vision for what the unit could become. It was a great interview in that I never felt like it was interview, if that makes sense. I felt like we were colleagues sitting around discussing improvements, goals and dreams we had for the hospital, pretty cool. After that the manager walked me back down to meet with the nurse recruiter but before leaving she hugged me! I love hugs, so that was fun! The nurse recruiter asked how everything went up on the unit and I told her how much I enjoyed the manager and that I thought working there would be a good fit for me. She asked, "Can you hang out here for a minute? I want to go talk to that manager." I told her sure and then about ten minutes later she was back, ushering me into her office and giving me an offer for a position! WOW! I was shocked it happened so fast. I was expecting to leave and be told they would call and get back to me. No, she sat me down and offered me a good hourly rate and even a sign on bonus! I told her I was meeting my husband for lunch and that I would like to discuss it all with him before I gave her a final answer. She told that would be fine and as I was leaving she said, "Well, call me either way, even if you need to think about it for a little longer, but know this...we reeeeeally want you to come work here." WOW again! I was thankful for the interview and told her so and then left to meet Jack. Over lunch we discussed the details and decided I should accept the position. WOOHOO! I have a job!! I'm looking forward to starting, should be in the next weeks, and I'm looking forward to the new skills I will develop working with these patients. Praise God this was a direct answer to prayer and I'm so thankful!!
